Position in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience Research, Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track)
The Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) (www.mss.northwestern.edu) at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine (www.feinberg.northwestern.edu) invites applications for a full-time position at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level. MSS provides a scientific home for cognitive neuroscientists with research programs that utilize biomedical approaches and clinical populations to investigate mechanisms for cognition. The Department has a strong and diverse extramural research portfolio exceeding $40 million spanning assessment, clinical research, and technology implementation in the hospital setting. MSS is a basic sciences unit within the medical school comprised almost entirely of Ph.D. scientists conducting human-subjects research with an outreach mission to clinical departments. As such, the Department is adept at supporting close collaborations with the many clinical centers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. We are seeking a cognitive neuroscientist with a research portfolio that uses cutting-edge methods to investigate mechanisms for cognition and cognitive impairment. Potential focus areas include invasive neural recording and/or stimulation methods, utilizing sEEG/ECoG experimental approaches in collaboration with physician scientists at the Northwestern Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, functional neuroimaging utilizing our world-class MRI scanning resources provided by Center for Translational Imaging, and methods such as noninvasive EEG, noninvasive brain stimulation, and eye-movement tracking. Researchers working with human subjects as well as with nonhuman animal models are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate would be interested in experimental studies that seek to improving understanding and treatment of the cognitive disorders experienced by clinical populations. We are seeking candidates with a strong collaborative orientation, an impressive publication record, and strong extramural funding. Participation in MSS Departmental training activities and University service are also expected and valued. Candidates would additionally have the opportunity to seek affiliation with Northwestern’s many department-, school-, and campus-spanning institutes and centers, including the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Ph.D. program, the Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences, the Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease, the Institute for Public Health and Medicine, the Simpson Querrey Institute for BioNanotechnology, and others. The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled. For questions or more information about the position, please email Dr. Voss (joel-voss@northwestern.edu).
