Professors Nicola Bianchi, Benjamin Friedrich, Sara Moreira, Trang Nguyen, Ryan Hill, and Shengmao Cao are hiring Empirical Research Fellows for a period of one to two years. Research fellows work closely with faculty on a number of new and ongoing projects in industrial organization, labor economics, and organizational economics. Research fellows collect and organize data, conduct statistical analysis on large databases, simulate theoretical models, and provide other support associated with faculty research. The ideal candidate should be completing (or have completed) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and will have: (i) a strong quantitative background; (ii) excellent programming skills (especially in Stata, R, or Matlab); (iii) the ability to work independently to solve problems; and (iv) a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics. Background in economics is strongly recommended. The position will be based in-person at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. The position provides excellent preparation for entry into Ph.D. programs. Previous holders of this and similar positions at Kellogg have gone on to Ph.D. programs at UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, Princeton, and Stanford. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024 though other dates may be considered. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Short-listed applicants will be asked to complete a technical exercise and an interview. If interested, please fill out a survey at https://kellogg.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1BMr00n70cH937w. You must also complete a formal application, including cover letter, current CV, and university transcripts here. The cover letter should briefly describe your career or academic goals, your experience as a research assistant, or other experience with economic research (e.g., senior thesis), and a description of your programming background. Unofficial transcripts for undergraduate and graduate studies (if applicable) are sufficient.
