Assistant or Associate Professor – Team Science, Institute for Public Health and Medicine
The Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM) at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking an assistant or associate professor in the Team Science (non-tenure) track with research expertise in the area of perinatal mental health. The faculty position will be closely aligned with the Mothers and Babies Research Lab (https://www.mothersandbabiesprogram.org/) that focuses broadly on developing and testing perinatal mood disorder preventive interventions. Research areas of interest that complement current and anticipated future projects within the Mothers and Babies Research Lab include, but are not limited to, the relationship between perinatal mental health and infant/young child development, paternal mental health, the use of mHealth technology (e.g., online interventions, ecological momentary assessments, text messaging), cultural and contextual intervention adaptations to promote intervention research to sexual and gender minority and other sub-populations, health disparities, implementation science and intervention scaling, relationship between perinatal mental health and cardiovascular health, and trauma-informed interventions. The successful candidate ideally should have demonstrated success in research collaboration including on grant-funded projects in the broad area of perinatal mental health. This faculty position is on the team science track and the candidate will be expected to collaborate/support external grant submissions and research projects led by existing faculty within the Feinberg School of Medicine and across Northwestern University. The candidate will also be encouraged to develop/continue their own externally funded independent research program in perinatal mental health. The independent research program established by the new faculty member can build on work conducted in the Mothers and Babies Research Lab. Other collaboration opportunities are available with the Asher Center for the Study and Treatment of Depressive Disorders (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/sites/asher-center/) and the Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (https://cbits.northwestern.edu/). The new faculty member will be based within Northwestern’s Center for Community Health (CCH) (https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/sites/cch/), which is home to the Mothers and Babies Lab. The faculty member’s academic appointment will reside in a Department within the Feinberg School of Medicine appropriate to the individual’s training. This position will report to Dr. Darius Tandon, who directs both the Mothers and Babies Lab and CCH. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Start date is flexible, with a preference for the faculty member to start no later than September 1, 2023. Minimum requirements include: • A PhD or MD (or foreign equivalent) in a health-related field • Research experience with perinatal mental health (particularly depression and anxiety) • A record of, or demonstrated potential, to develop an independent research portfolio in perinatal mental health • Experience with manuscript writing for peer-review • A demonstrated ability to work with diverse (e.g., race, ethnicity, sexual orientation) perinatal populations Preferred qualifications include: • Training and clinical experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) • Familiarity and previous research experience in implementation science To apply, please submit a cover letter, the names and contact information of three references, a CV, and three writing examples related broadly to perinatal mental health or maternal and child health.
